Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Inc. would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters from this years inaugural Winnipeg’s Next Top COP Community Volunteer Awards Gala Event. A successful evening of fine-dining, entertainment, awards and dancing turned everyone into big supporters of this first time initiative by the Kiwanis Club - The overall theme - that one man or women can make a difference in our community through volunteerism.The evening was filled with some of Winnipeg’s finest, including Mayor Sam Katz, new Police Chief Devon Clunis, President of the Winnipeg Police Association Mike Sutherland, Minister Andrew Swan, MP Shelley Glover, Gordon Sinclair from the Winnipeg Free Press, the ever so entertaining Virgin Radio Host, Ace Burpee as the evenings EMCEE, auctioneer Phillippe Habeck, and many more.Everyone came together in support and recognition of three local Winnipeg police officers, who go above and beyond their call of duty, in volunteering in our community throughout the city. Congratulations to this years three finalists; Constable Shaun Chornley, Constable Kevin Gibson, and Sargent Geordie MacKenzie.All three of the nominees are winner in Winnipeg’s eyes, but there could only be one TOP COP and the honour is bestowed on Constable Kevin Gibson for his outstanding efforts to help inner city youth discover their potential and dreams.Funds raised from the event were shared with local charities, and the finalists supported community organizations; Status 4 Inc., The Dream Factory, and Norberry- Glenlee Community Centre.
