Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Foundation Scholarship
The Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a Key Club Member who has shown Service, Leadership and Fellowship in the student’s school and community. The recipient for this award is Mercy Oluwafemi.
Mercy is also receiving a Mel Osborne Fellow Youth Scholarship from the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada. This award is given to a student with academic achievement, good character, who is a participating member of a Kiwanis Service Leadership Club and who has demonstrated community service involvement.
As well, Mercy is also receiving a Key Club Scholarship which honours a student pursuing a post-secondary education who combines academic achievement with citizenship.
The Kiwanis is an international organization that sponsors Key Club International. Mercy has been an active member of the Vincent Massey Key Club since she moved to Canada, from Nigeria two years ago. The Key Club is a service organization for high school students that is student-led and teaches leadership through serving others.
Mercy has organized and has participated in many volunteer and fundraising activities at Vincent Massey Collegiate and in the community to help people in need locally and internationally.
Mercy is always looking for a way to make a difference in our global community. This includes raising money for VMC’s sponsored child “Eric”, conducting a food drive for Winnipeg Harvest, as well as volunteering her time at Siloam Mission, Winnipeg Harvest, We Day, and participating in Random Acts of Kindness. Mercy’s leadership abilities and her drive to make the world a better place have had a positive impact on her school and her community. These qualities will assist her in her endeavours next year at the University of Manitoba.
It is an honour and privilege to present these three scholarships to Mercy Oluwafemi
